Dear Friend of Education,

Please join me in making a financial contribution to the campaign for a “YES” vote on the upcoming Enhancement Millage for our schools.

What’s the issue?

On Tuesday, November 3, 2009, residents of Washtenaw County school districts will vote on a two-mill increase to support our public schools. Our children need your help in getting the message out about this important issue.

Why invest in our children?

In these uncertain times, the best investment you can make is in a child’s future. Our children and grandchildren need the best education possible to get 21st Century jobs.

They require a strong elementary and high school education to compete, no matter if they go on to a four-year university, community college or technical school.

And, if our public schools stay strong, jobs will be here for our kids,—because companies locate in areas with excellent school systems.

Why take action now?

“School funding is heading toward a crisis point.” – says The Ann Arbor News editorial of May 31, 2009. Most districts are facing severe shortfalls in next year’s budget—some in the millions of dollars. And, more state cuts in the district’s per-pupil funding—which makes up the bulk of the schools’ revenue—are projected for next school year.

Our kids can’t wait for the state or someone else to fix our problems. It’s up to us. This is the way we can invest in their education and all the money— 100% of it—stays here in our schools to benefit our kids.

How can you help?

Please join me in making a contribution and becoming a Friend of Education. We may never have a better chance to preserve the quality of education in Washtenaw County for our children and grandchildren.

And, please remember to vote “YES for our KIDS” on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at your school election polling place.

Sincerely,

Larry Cobler, Treasurer Friends of Education
